The Hong Kong Institute Of Musculoskeletal Medicine

The Hong Kong Institute of Musculoskeletal Medicine (HKIMM) is a non-profit organization established in 2005, dedicated to promoting education and research in the field of musculoskeletal medicine, ultimately benefiting the public. HKIMM represents the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region in the International Federation for Manual/Musculoskeletal Medicine (FIMM).
Our Mission
Our missions are as follows:
• To disseminate knowledge and skills related to musculoskeletal medicine among healthcare professionals across various disciplines.
• To encourage and support clinical research in this vital field, which is also the rationale behind establishing the channel in Cureus.
• To coordinate resources and efforts for teaching and learning in musculoskeletal medicine.
• To raise public awareness and understanding of this discipline.
To achieve these objectives, the Institute plans to launch a "Diploma in Musculoskeletal Medicine in 2025," which will feature a comprehensive syllabus and established accreditation criteria. In addition, we regularly conduct grand rounds, lectures, workshops, and symposia designed to meet the interests and needs of our members.
Our Discipline
Musculoskeletal (MSK) medicine is an essential and evolving medical specialty that addresses pain and dysfunction of the musculoskeletal system, often arising from defective biomechanics and biotensegrity failures due to:
• Poor posture
• Repetitive strains
• Injuries
• Degenerative conditions
• Deformities
Treatment within MSK medicine is founded on current biomedical and psychosocial knowledge, emphasizing the restoration of body biomechanics and biotensegrity, the promotion of functional rehabilitation, and effective pain management.
